Transforming Men Through Jesus Christ In Authentic, Weekly Fellowship In Discipleship
Mark Walton

“As a young man having just graduated school and entering the workforce, I was on fire for just about everything except my relationship with the Lord. I had in my mind each step I needed to take to ultimately find purpose and fulfillment. At each milestone I would find myself right back where I started looking for the next hit to bring purpose to my life. Growing up in a Christian family, I had always known the importance of community and daily pursuit of The Father, but never could put my pride to the side and give up control.

After talking with a few men I admire and hearing how their FinD group impacted their lives, I got linked up with Clint and started the process of joining FinD in a newly formed small group eventually named G-Squared. Not knowing what to expect going into the first meeting, it quickly became apparent that each man in the group brought a unique story and perspective. The common theme was that each one of us was longing for vulnerability and a deeper relationship with The Father. As we began working through each of our testimonies, it was clear our group had been carefully orchestrated for the Lord to speak through each of us into each other's lives.

I couldn’t be more thankful for the Lord placing each of them in my life to encourage me and challenge me in my daily walk. G-Squared and FinD as a whole brings community that drives men towards what brings ultimate purpose… a personal relationship with God the Father and allowing him to work through us to bring others to Christ.”

Mark and his family are currently searching for a Church home after moving to Fulshear from the Memorial area. Mark is a member of FinD's Discipleship Council and serves on the Service & Outreach and Caring Committees. He is married to his lovely wife Lauren, a dad to Brooks, and is a Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of ‘16. He works for Sullivan Process Controls as its Upstream & Midstream Market Manager. If you haven’t heard Mark sing and play his guitar before, you need to make the next FinD Fire Pit Night. Legendary pipes.

Trevor Harris – FinD’s Shepherd Chair & Member of STUDs (Sons Transformed Under Discipleship)

Trevor Harris FinD

First and foremost, I am a blessed man. Christ dying for my sins and giving me the chance to live a life that glorifies Him is something that escapes my comprehension daily. As I sit here and write a testimony, it hits me hard in the best of ways: my walk is imperfect but still, even knowing that would be the case, my Father sent His Son Jesus to die for humanity and myself, and I get to experience the greatness and grace of that at any waking moment.

I came to Christ when I was 13 at MDPC when a youth leader showed by example the fullness of a life in Christ. I have known my purpose ever sense, but I still try to live under two masters more than I care to admit. Whether it was the pursuit of acceptance or ego in high school, battle of grace towards self in college, or the pursuit of money and comfort after entering the real world, knowing my purpose has never deterred an adversary that actively and constantly tries to dethrone Christ as my focus. Thankfully, the Lord has always put friends, peers, and mentors in my life that have pointed me back to him. Luke, Chris, Brett, Robert, Josh, Brad, Clint, Lunden, and countless others have loved me so incredibly well, and I am thankful to know what brotherhood looks like through these men. Without them, I don’t think I would have ever known why a group like FinD could be so significant.

In 2017, I met Clint and constantly joked with him that “we need to do lunch.” I knew we would discuss what fellowship looked like in my life because, let’s be honest, his reputation and passion for this is second to none. It wasn’t until 2 years later that I agreed to chat, and I knew that joining a group through FinD would answer the question I had been avoiding: who are you actively putting in your life on a weekly basis to further your faith.

In the four years that we have been meeting, STUDs has gone through ups and downs. From an exciting start to being lambasted by Covid changes, our group had to figure out what we wanted and how we would push through. While it may not be a textbook case of how to communicate and grow through adversity, the end result is. I have zero doubt in my mind that this group was assembled to challenge all of us to grow and sharpen each other and not just settle for “a reading group.” That’s not easy and this conflict avoidant millennial learned how to grow as a man and as a brother in Christ.

If you ever think “is it worth the time and effort to truly get to know these men,” the answer is yes. Unequivocally yes. But it is only as valuable to you as the effort you put into it. I am incredibly thankful for my group, and I think it makes me a better man and a better husband. While the Lord will never run out of ways to mature me in sanctification, I rest assured that He is using this group to get me there. And I hope the same for you.

Trevor worships at Grace Bible Church in The Heights and is a leader of FinD’s core leadership team serving as chair of the Shepherds team, the Health Check Committee, FinD JobSeekers and a myriad of other servant hearted ways.  He was married last year (2022) to his lovely bride, Morgan, and a graduate of Texas A&M University.  He works in Business Development for Arkos Global Advisor.

My FinD story! First thing I would say is to just run to Father and lean in. He will transform you into a difference maker. I let the deadly sin of pride deceive me for way too long. I finally turned the wheel over to the spiritual Being that made me - GOD.  I repented and turned to live a different way with Him in control. And, man, was I saved by the grace of his Son on the Cross, His blood, His stripes. A free gift if I would just believe! It is past and present tense, I was and am saved! I was saved because I believe He died to take my sins along with everyone else that breaths on earth.

Daily, I am reminded that I am to go out and share the Good News, to reflect His light in the darkness. I am commanded to be His disciple and to shine His light. The men in my FinD group (BIGGINs – Brothers in Grace, Growing in Numbers) have leaned into me and been true difference makers in my discipleship walk.

The great awakening is here. My BIGGINs brothers hold me accountable and responsible to be a difference maker. It's what our Father, Son and Holy Spirit ask us to do while having this brief ride on this earth. I have found the Truth and it has set me free. I know where my eternity will be- do you? The challenge and spiritual battle is worth the fight every day. Pick up your cross and follow Jesus Christ. Do this in fellowship with other disciples in a FinD group. Don't believe the lies from Satan and all the deception the world paints around you. I lied to myself for a long time, and I blew off the calling. Now is the time to pray, talk nice to yourself, keep your joy and peace, learn the living and active Word of God in the Bible, and share your story daily with anyone who will listen! Get used to different!

FinD, BIGGINs, fellowship, discipleship, truth, repentance – what a game changer. I encourage any man looking for this same rich blessing to get plugged into a group as soon as possible.

Joel worships at Chapelwood United Methodist Church and is actively involved in men’s ministry lay leadership there.  He is a dad to three amazing kiddos – Sloane, Brynn and Peyton, and a graduate of Texas Tech University.  He is also the Director – Business Development for Lonestar Electric Supply and a a regular NCAA referee for college football games around the country during each football season.

Walt Denny

One of the most impactful decisions of my life was joining a Lenten study series with a small group of men in the spring of 2006. Our initial plan was to meet for 6 weeks; however, a powerful bond developed between us, and we continue to meet today. Along our journey, we have experienced all that life brings including laughter, celebration, anxiety, and sadness. When I first joined the group, I was eager to learn about Christ but had questions about my faith. I was soon comforted after discovering others had similar struggles or uncertainties. The group has transformed life and made realize the importance of having a group of men that I can be vulnerable with and share life’s experience. God has used my brothers in the group to grow my faith, comfort me in need, and show me His love.

Several years ago, they walked with me as I went through a difficult work transition and times of job instability. The power and attraction of being part of a FinD small group is amazing. I cannot imagine “The 13” not being a part of my life.

Walt is a regular attendant at Houston’s First Baptist, husband to Jennifer, dad to two amazing sons, and a graduate of the University of Oklahoma and the University of Texas at Austin.

Joining FinD (especially my small group, IronMen) has been a blessing to my life in so many ways.

When I first joined, I was a bit hesitant to be myself and truly open up about my life experiences as I thought my background would be very different than the others. But soon after, I learned that even though we had different backgrounds, we all shared a love for Christ and wanted to become better men of God.

Our weekly meetings have helped me become more accountable through support, encouragement and prayer. Being part of Ironmen these past three years has encouraged me to become a better husband, father and friend.

Proverbs 27:17 “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”
